Summary: | The European Bank for Reconstruction and
Development (EBRD)- World Bank business environment and
enterprise performance survey (BEEPS) is a joint initiative
of the EBRD and the World Bank. The BEEPS have been carried
out in five rounds: in 1999, 2002, 2005, and 2008; the 2011
is currently under implementation. The survey covers
virtually all countries of Central and Eastern Europe and
the Former Soviet Union, as well as Turkey. The BEEPS covers
a broad range of issues about the business environment, and
this note presents some simple indicators for key areas.
BEEPS at-a-glance is deducted primarily to questions that
are comparable across periods. The annex to the BEEPS
at-a-glance document provides additional information on the
comparability of indicators, specific differences and
methods of calculation, if any. Key criteria for sampling
were firm size, age, primary area of activity, and ownership
of the firm. For a number of indicators, the number of firms
that responded to a question is smaller than the overall
country sample size. In most cases, the difference is
attributable to preceding filter questions. This note
focuses exclusively on the main BEEPS questionnaires for
2008 and 2011 and presents weighted averages or frequency
distributions over all firms with non-missing data. |
